SAFETY & PLANNING

Planning access around the work.

The building, the people using the scaffold and the work being done all shape the plan.

Plan the scaffold

Scaffold erection, alteration and dismantling require competent people and supervision. Establish whether a recognised standard configuration applies or a competent designer needs to provide bespoke calculations.

Share the site requirements

Confirm use, loads, dimensions, ground conditions, access and programme. Highlight overhead services, fragile roofs, public routes and delivery restrictions. Resolve highway permissions where applicable.

Handover and inspection

Agree responsibilities before use. For construction scaffolds with a potential fall of two metres or more, HSE guidance calls for competent inspection on completion, at least every seven days, and after events likely to affect safety.

Changes during use

Do not alter the scaffold yourself. Discuss loading, sheeting, netting and changes with the contractor first. Report damage and prevent use if safety is uncertain.

Oracle project information

Before work is agreed, ask for the current insurance and competence information, design responsibilities, handover documents and inspection arrangements relevant to the quoted scope. These details are confirmed for each project. This page does not claim a particular accreditation or insurance limit.
